Multiplex tissue image of the month - RFX2 in nasopharynx
Multiplex tissue image of the month - RFX2 in nasopharynxIn this edition of multiplex image of this month, Ciliogenesis-associated regulatory factor X2 (gene:RFX2) is visualized in ciliated epithelium of the nasopharynx. Ciliated cells of upper respiratory tract nasopharynx epithelium are among the additional cell types that have been added to the multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC/IF)-based exploration of protein expression in the most recent update of the Human Protein Atlas. Using the ciliated cells panel, made up of five markers for different subcellular structures in ciliated cells, RFX2 - a transcription factor that is believed to regulate the transcription of motile cilia genes together with FOXJ1 - is localized (green) to the nucleus of the ciliated cells of nasopharynx epithelium. Other visualized cell structures include cilia axoneme (white), cilia transition zone (yellow) and cytoplasm (cyan). The spatial expression data is supported by the single-cell RNA sequencing data for RFX2 available in the Single Cell resource showing group enriched expression in ciliated cells and other cell types associated with motile cilia.
