Multiplex tissue image of the month - TMEM52B in kidney
Multiplex tissue image of the month - TMEM52B in kidneyThis month, specific expression of Transmembrane protein 52B (gene: TMEM52B) in distal tubules in the kidney is highlighted with multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC/IF). The distal convoluted tubules within the kidney are short segments of the nephron unit where the urine filtrate is processed through reabsorption of ions and water to regulate electrolyte and fluid balance. The mIHC/IF kidney panel can be used to interpret the detailed distribution of proteins between different tubular structures within the kidney. Using mIHC/IF, TMEM52B - a largely uncharacterized protein - is specifically localized (green) to the apical part of the cytoplasm of distal tubular cells (red). Other visualized kidney structures include the proximal tubules (white). In accordance with the spatial expression pattern, single-cell RNA sequencing data for TMEM52B shows enriched expression in distal tubular cells.
